Agreement with the Colombian Institute for Rural Development (INCODER)
Partners: Institute for Rural Development (INCODER) – MarViva
The design and execution of this project will allow the definition of a possible fishery regulation model on the Choco Pacific coast based on better information available about the resources and socio-cultural aspects of the region. This will be made possible through the collective construction of initiatives that will contribute to the sustainable use of fishery resources.
This partnership will strengthen and give continuity to the support that Colombia’s fishery authority has been giving to the projects and actions that MarViva is developing for fisheries monitoring and research, community management agreements, the application of responsible fishing practices, sustainable alternatives to fishing and the generation of documents on sport fishing and aquaculture.
The goal for 2012, the year the agreement terminates, is to have adequate information regarding average fish size at capture and maturity, the location of netting areas, spawning seasons, as well as the identification of conflicts between industrial and artisanal fishers, which will allow the implementation of regulatory measures for shared resources.
