Urgent warning

This week in Bogotá, the book Assessment of the main fisheries of the Colombian Pacific was launched; it was edited and produced by Juan Manuel Díaz, professor of the National University and scientific director of MarViva Foundation Colombia.


This publication evaluates fishery resources and fish systems in the Colombian Pacific in the last five years, and it explores the piangua clam, shrimp and tuna fisheries in depth.

I still remember the arrival of Wok on the culinary scene of Bogotá, which wasn’t as rich or as varied as today, but which had already begun to command exorbitant prices. So-called Thailandese cuisine, a name given to almost anything oriental that was neither Chinese or Japanese food, had already made a timid appearance and gained some adept fans. But it was a privilege reserved for only a few, due to the high prices. That is, until Wok arrived, and the people flipped in gratitude for this gesture of democratization of gastronomic pleasures.

Bogotá. (El Tiempo). The days appear to be numbered for fishing in the Colombian Pacific. This is the conclusion drawn from the panorama of this activity in Colombia, as revealed in the 'Assessment of the main fisheries of the Pacific'.

The volumes of tuna landed by the industrial fleet in Colombian ports exceed the established quotas, meaning that extraction has been excessive.
