Jorge Jiménez | General Director

Jorge Jiménez has a doctorate in marine ecology. His extensive field experience has led him to become a researcher for the School of Biological Sciences, a member of the Graduate Academic Committee, coordinator of the mangrove forest ecology and management program, and a member of the University Council of the National University of Costa Rica.
He has been a visiting professor at institutions in the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, Australia and Europe; he has also worked as an honorary professor of the Graduate Studies System and as a research associate at the University of Costa Rica's Marine Research Center.
Prior to joining MarViva, he worked at the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE) as a specialist in swamp forest and wildlands management; at the Tropical Forestry Institute in Puerto Rico he served as instructor for the Tropical Forest Management course, and as an instructor of graduate courses for the Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS), where he is also a member of the assembly and the board of directors. He was also the director of biological inventories at the National Biodiversity Institute (INBIO), director of scientific programs and general director of the OTS.
His experience in mangrove ecology is summarized in several publications, including maps, technical reports, scientific articles and books, among others. His book, "The Mangroves of the Central American Pacific", is noteworthy.

Alejandra Pacheco | Director of Co-Investments

Alejandra Pacheco has a master's degree in business administration and project management from INCAE. She has extensive experience in the multinational setting, in both public and private sectors.
Before coming to MarViva, she worked at CINDE, a Costa Rican agency for the promotion of investment, attracting foreign services companies interested in setting up 'offshore' operations in the country, creating better work opportunities, technology transfer and general improvement in living standards.
She served as a diplomat for the government of Costa Rica in Spain, where she promoted initiatives in tourism, trade, international cooperation and investment. She also worked at United Technologies' Carrier Corporation, headquartered in Europe, North America and Latin America, as the leader of several projects of local, regional and global scope.

Zuleika Pinzón | MarViva Panama National Director

Zuleika Pinzón is a Fisheries Engineer, having obtained her degree with honors from the Universidad Federal Rural de Pernambuco, Brazil and a Master of Science degree from the University of Florida in the US; she also did graduate studies at the Technological University of Panama in Industrial Engineering, specializing in Administration.
For 10 years, from May 2001 to April 2011, she directed Fundación NATURA in Panama, a non-profit non-governmental organization recognized for its management of funds to finance conservation and sustainable development. As of April 18, 2011, she is the National Director of the MarViva Foundation in Panama.
Engineer Zuleika Pinzón has an active presence in the Environmental and Marine Civil Society, both locally and regionally. She currently holds the position of Regional Councilor for Meso and South America for the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) and until April 2011 she served as Vice-president of the Network of Environmental Funds for Latin America and the Caribbean (RedLAC). She has been a member of various international groups, such as the Watersheds Thinking Group at the Central American level managed by CATIE. Nationally, she represents organizations for environmental promotion and protection on the National Council for Development Harmonization, she is on the Steering Council of CIDES (International Center for Sustainable Development) for the Alliance for the Environment of Panama and she has been part of the National Committee for Wetlands since its creation. Engineer Zuleika Pinzón has also gained significant experience in the field of coastal and marine science, especially in mangrove ecosystems in Panama, Brazil, the United States and Micronesia.

José Andrés Díaz | MarViva Colombia National Director

An Economist with master's degrees in environmental economics and business administration, José Andrés Díaz has extensive experience in the formulation and management of conservation projects regarding the commercialization of biodiversity, development of community businesses and REDD projects in both the public and private sectors.
Before coming to MarViva, he worked with the Biotrade Initiative of UNCTAD, in Colombia's Ministry of the Environment and in the Alexander von Humboldt Institute where he coordinated projects to generate sustainable income options for indigenous and rural communities of Colombia and other countries of Central America and South America.
