The marine agenda has had a low priority in the policies of most countries in the region. One major gap is seen in the policies and regulations regarding use of the sea and its resources, and in inter-institutional coordination.
The Political Advocacy program seeks to strengthen decision-making processes, contribute to the implementation of existing standards and generate polices and regulations related to the conservation and responsible management of coastal and marine resources. Likewise it aims to promote a comprehensive legal framework that would provide security to public and private investments in the coastal and marine context over the long term.
