The Communications Program in Costa Rica has established relations with the national and international communications media to disseminate the work the Foundation is carrying out in the country using reporting, interviews, opinion articles and press releases. This has allowed the organization to place topics of major interest for the fulfillment of the organization’s objectives on the public agenda.
It participates actively in the development of projects for other MarViva programs, offering logistical, audiovisual and press support to different events such as trips to communities, creation of designs, organization of campaigns, and more. Best environmental practices and responsible use of marine resources are the major themes that are promoted.
Through Communication actions and strategies, MarViva promotes responsible seafood consumption, raises awareness about the importance of not fishing commercially in national parks, the need to save hammerhead sharks, and concepts such as the use of cloth bags rather than plastic ones when shopping.
Similarly, calls go out to the public about reforms to articles in the Fisheries Law that represent threats to marine resources in national parks.
